Two generations of jangly UK indie bands made for a very appealing double bill.
Two generations of jangly UK indie bands — The Wedding Present and The Tubs — are on the road across North America currently for what is a very appealing double bill. The main event is TWP’s second album, Bizarro, which they’re playing in full in celebration of its 35th anniversary. Their set on Friday at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg began with a few selections from their other albums, including “A Million Miles,” “It’s a Gas,” and “Come Play With Me,” before diving into Bizarro. The album was the band’s peak era of hyper-strummed guitar pop, and such workouts as “Brassneck,” “Take Me,” “Bewitched” and more are still being attacked at full throttle. Following Bizarro they played three of their best-loved classics, “My Favorite Dress,” “Dalliance” and “Crawl,” before calling it a night.
Featuring two former members of Joanna Gruesome, The Tubs are making their North American live debut on this tour, and their MHOW set featured songs from both of the band’s albums as well as new song “Who’s Gonna Love You.”
