‘Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement’ Announced for 2026 [Trailer]

We’ve officially waited long enough for the Bloodstained sequel, as Artplay and 505 Games have revealed Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement. Helmed by Creative Director Shutaro and produced by Koji Igarashi, the game will launch in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC via Steam, and once again calls back to the classic Metroidvania formula, this time borrowing from Konami’s Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.

Set in the 16th century, the Ethereal Castle and its demonic inhabitants led by the Demon Lord Elias have been terrorizing the land, laying waste to all who defy their dark power. All attempts to destroy the castle and fight the demons have failed, leaving many noble warriors defeated and lost. The last hope of humanity is an unlikely duo: Leonard, a young Black Wolves apprentice, and Alexander, a knight and the last survivor of White Stags. Together they must work as one to infiltrate the castle, fight for survival, acquire powerful artifacts and defeat the Demon Lord Elias.

Gameplay in The Scarlet Engagement takes place in the Ethereal Castle, the “largest and deadliest” Bloodstained map to date, according to 505 Games’ Jason Ryan. The castle is a massive structure with the expected diverse locations and enemies. As before, you’ll be collecting ingredients, crafting upgrades, weapons armor and enchantments that Leo and Alex will need to emerge victorious.

Speaking of the duo, similar to Portrait of Ruin, you will control one character, while your companion assists in combat. You’re able to switch between the two at the press of a button. And as detailed in the trailer, you’ll be able to perform special abilities that combine the powers of both protagonists.
