Who is next to lead Star Wars? That’s the question posed in a new article about the Lucasfilm succession. According to THR, they say the studio could be co-led by Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck, both currently employed by Lucasfilm.
The article also goes into many other discussions, like who could replace Iger as head of Disney alongside other studios. Check it out at the link above for an interesting read. However, If you aint got time for that and just want to know what was said about Lucasfilm? I got you.
‘Lucasfilm seems likely to follow that path in replacing Kennedy. Despite speculation about outside candidates, including former 20th Century head Emma Watts, insiders say the company seems most likely to promote from within. The current thinking is a scenario where chief creative officer Dave Filoni and production head Carrie Beck — both Lucasfilm vets — take co-head roles. Even as an arm of Disney, Lucasfilm remains, in many ways, a family business, and as a George Lucas protégé Filoni long has been considered a golden boy.’
‘But the knock against him is that he might be too steeped in Star Wars lore and risks steering a show into dense mythology that loses a broader audience. “He’s not the Andor guy, he’s the Ahsoka guy,” says one Disney insider. Beck, who joined the company in 2012, knows the ins and outs, but neither she nor Filoni has much film experience, which could be mitigated by Kennedy’s continued presence as a producer on certain Star Wars projects, ensuring quality control in the short term.’

I’m not sure who the right person to run Lucasfilm is? Kennedy had more fails than wins overall for me. Ultimately the sequel trilogy hurt the franchise in a way it may never recover from. Yet, we have also had some small examples of success and one stellar example in Andor.
Filoni? He’s too much of a cartoon writer/director for me, so far. Ahsoka felt like it was written as an animated series and then switched into live-action. I’m not sure we’d have gotten Andor under Filoni, but perhaps I’m doing him a disservice? I guess for now we will just have to wait and see. However if THR is hearing it could be Filoni and Beck, then there’s a good chance it will happen.
What would you like to see happen with the Lucasfilm succession? What do you think of Dave Filoni co-leading the Studio with Carrie Beck? Thoughts below.
