Press Release: Greenerwave establishes new presence in Toulouse

Press Release hub banner blue with title in red white and blueGreenerwave, the deep tech startup specializing in the control of electromagnetic waves, has announced the opening of new offices in Toulouse to accelerate its growth. By moving into the European capital of aerospace, the company is embedding itself within a top-tier ecosystem that brings together France’s leading expertise in the sector.

This strategic location within a specialized technical environment will give a strong boost to Greenerwave’s ambition: to revolutionize satellite communications through a disruptive technology. Its solution, passive and low in semiconductor consumption, enables the development of a new generation of antennas that are more energy-efficient and have a lower carbon footprint.

This move also underscores Greenerwave’s commitment to strengthening European technological sovereignty in a highly strategic domain.

A strategic move

Toulouse stands out as one of Europe’s most dynamic space hubs — an intersection of innovation, research, and industry. Beyond its historical roots in aeronautics, the city is now recognized as a key center for satellites, orbital technologies, and space applications.

By choosing to set up operations here, Greenerwave is entering a unique innovation ecosystem that supports the acceleration of its technologies and its bold ambitions. As satellite communications (Satcom) become increasingly central — whether for connectivity, defense, or the management of critical infrastructure — innovation is proving to be a decisive lever for technological sovereignty.

Greenerwave aims to contribute meaningfully by offering passive, energy-efficient solutions that are poised to redefine the standards of satellite communication antennas. This new location not only enhances the company’s visibility within the ecosystem but also cements its role as a key player in the NewSpace movement.

It reinforces Greenerwave’s determination to contribute to European technological sovereignty — through solutions that combine performance, independence, and sustainability.

Geoffroy Lerosey, CEO and co-founder of Greenerwave, explains: “Toulouse is more than an industrial hub — it is a powerhouse of expertise, innovation, and ambition. This move is a vital lever to raise awareness of our sovereign European technology: resource-efficient, globally competitive, and built for resilience. Our mission is clear: to help build a more robust European space sector, anchored in low-impact technologies that reduce critical dependencies.”

A disruptive French technology addressing major industrial challenges

Founded in 2015 by CNRS researcher Geoffroy Lerosey and Professor Mathias Fink (ESPCI Paris), Greenerwave has developed a breakthrough technology based on reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) and proprietary physics-based algorithms. This innovative approach enables real-time steering of signal-carrying waves by shifting complexity from hardware to software. The result: significantly lower energy consumption, reduced use of semiconductors, and the emergence of a new generation of high-efficiency antennas that are both leaner and more sustainable.

Greenerwave is supported by renowned industrial and institutional partners such as Intelsat and the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA), who recognize the exceptional potential of its breakthrough technology. These collaborations, built on real synergies, highlight growing interest in high-value, innovative solutions across sectors such as space, defense, and telecommunications.

Now employing nearly 120 people — most of whom are based in Paris — Greenerwave is expanding with a new expert team in Toulouse, led by Thibault Maisonnat.

The locally recruited team includes talent from Thales Alenia Space, Airbus Defence & Space, and Eutelsat OneWeb. As the company scales up its industrial capabilities, the new unit strengthens Greenerwave’s operational and technical capacities. It draws on the team’s deep expertise in integrating complex systems — especially in antenna architecture for low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations.

Located near the Cité de l’Espace, the Toulouse team benefits from state-of-the-art infrastructure, including an anechoic chamber, a custom outdoor structure for terminal validation (see images below), and next-generation RF testing equipment. These facilities allow for the integration and validation of Greenerwave’s multi-orbit Satcom terminals.

The company recently welcomed several French and international clients to its new Toulouse facility for a successful demonstration campaign showcasing the capabilities of its LEO/GEO multi-orbit terminal. These demonstrations confirmed strong interest from leading industry players and marked a major step forward in the technology’s adoption.

Greenerwave plans to grow the Toulouse team with several positions to be filled by the end of 2025, underscoring its intent to establish a lasting presence in the region.

An establishment supported by Toulouse Team Invest

Greenerwave was first identified in 2022 through SpaceFounders, a program funded by CNES. Its establishment in Toulouse is the result of active and personalized support from Toulouse Team Invest — the economic development team of Toulouse Team agency.

Toulouse Team Invest organized a technical visit to allow Greenerwave’s team to explore the region and meet key local stakeholders. Over the course of two days, they held discussions with key players like OneWeb, TéSA Laboratory, and the Aerospace Valley competitiveness cluster. Toulouse Team Invest then helped the company secure premises tailored to its specific needs.

Jean-Claude Dardelet, President of the Toulouse Team agency, stated: “We are delighted to welcome the Greenerwave team to the European capital of space. Their arrival strengthens our ambitious, dynamic, and innovative local ecosystem. The disruptive technology they are developing addresses major challenges and will benefit many stakeholders across our city. The Toulouse Team agency is proud to have supported Greenerwave at every stage of their establishment — from connecting them with local partners to finding a facility right next to the Cité de l’Espace.”
