When Roger Federer stepped away from tennis, he didn’t walk into retirement, he stepped into refinement. His latest chapter takes shape in The Legacy Case, a limited-edition collaboration with Moët & Chandon that bridges Federer’s most defining moments with the storied heritage of Champagne’s most iconic maison. Conceived alongside Moët’s revered Chef de Cave Benoît Gouez and encased in a custom trunk, the project is as much a celebration of memory as it is of craftsmanship.

“I was truly touched,” Federer says, recalling the first time he laid eyes on The Legacy Case. “It captures some of my most treasured moments, both on and off the court.” The case holds twelve bottles, seven Grand Vintages, each tied to a milestone in Federer’s life, and a singular magnum of 1998 vintage, the year his ascent began after winning Junior World Champion at Wimbledon.

There’s something quietly poetic about Federer’s reverence for patience, detail, and the slow burn of mastery, qualities mirrored in the vintages themselves. “After so many years competing, I’ve come to really value how I spend my time,” he reflects. “I’ve been fortunate to witness firsthand the care that goes into each bottle. It’s made me appreciate the parallels between winemaking and the kind of intentional living I now aspire to.”

That shared philosophy shaped the DNA of The Legacy Case. Federer and Gouez didn’t just select wines, they curated a story. From 2000, the year he met his wife Mirka at the Sydney Olympics, to 2009, when he became a father, each vintage is a vessel for personal evolution. “The Magnum from 1998 is particularly meaningful,” Federer adds. “That’s when my tennis journey really took flight.”

For Gouez, the challenge was translating centuries of winemaking tradition into something emotionally resonant, and unmistakably modern. “Legacies aren’t built overnight,” he says. “Like Roger’s career, a Grand Vintage takes years to shape. This case is a dual celebration: of past excellence and of what’s still possible.” Each vintage, he explains, is the result of a single harvest—its personality dictated by weather, yield, and instinct. “Together, these wines form a chorus. Different in tone, but united in craftsmanship.”

I’ve spent most of my life living out of suitcases. What I admire is how the case balances beauty and utilityRoger Federer

And then there’s the case itself,  where precision engineering meets elegance. Federer, a lifelong traveler, felt an immediate connection. “I’ve spent most of my life living out of suitcases,” he says with a smile. “What I admire is how the case balances beauty and utility. It’s designed to be moved, but also to hold something irreplaceable.”

The project is more than commemorative. Proceeds from The Legacy Case will support the Roger Federer Foundation, a philanthropic endeavor close to his heart. “It’s humbling to know this collaboration can give back,” Federer says. “That makes the celebration even more meaningful.”

As Moët & Chandon continues to push the boundaries of what Champagne can represent—through innovations like Collection Impériale Création No. 1The Legacy Case serves as a compelling signal: storytelling, design, and oenology aren’t just coexisting—they’re converging. “It’s about crafting moments worth remembering,” Gouez says. “And sharing them with those who helped you get there.” In that way, The Legacy Case is more than a collector’s item. It’s a toast to time, well-lived, well-crafted, and well-shared.
