“Karate Kid” Takes Bronze At Box-Office

The new “Karate Kid: Legends” pulled in $7.5 million in cinemas on opening day (including Thursday previews), the film is now headed for an opening weekend of $21-23 million.

That’s slightly below the $25 million projections the film was said to be targeting going into the weekend. Though critical reviews for the film have been decidedly mixed, audiences seem much more pleased with the title drawing an A- CinemaScore.

The film will come third for the weekend as Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” and Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” is expected to remain atop the box-office after their debuts last week.

‘Lilo’ pulled in $17 million on Friday alone and is targeting a $60-64 million second weekend – a drop of around 57%. By end of Sunday, the film should be sitting around $280 million total domestically.

‘Mission’ landed $7.5 million on Friday and is on track for a second weekend haul of around $26.7 million – a drop of 58% from its record-setting opening haul. By end of Sunday, it should be at a $122 million total domestically.

“Final Destination: Bloodlines” is set to come in fourth with $11 million in its third weekend. Rounding out the top five is new release “Bring Her Back,” the A24 horror title is set for a $7-8 million domestic opening weekend.
