New Details On Axed “Black Panther” Game

Two days ago, the news came that Electronic Arts was closing its developer Cliffhanger Games and cancelling their proposed AAA “Black Panther” game that had been in development after being announced in 2023.

The third-person, single-player game would’ve been the first major game centered on the character, but further specifics about it were under wraps beyond talk of it being an open-world adventure.

A new report at Bloomberg has now gone into details about the project, the big one being that the title would’ve used the famed Nemesis system developed for the “Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor” games.

Various ex-developers from Monolith Productions, which developed the Nemesis system, were the ones who started Cliffhanger. Nemesis involved procedurally generated enemies who had unique traits and would seemingly evolve offscreen between your encounters with them.

The report indicates Nemesis would’ve been used for the Skrulls this time out, the shape-shifting aliens set to serve as the enemies you take on as they invade Wakanda.

Players could also play one of four people all vying for the title of Black Panther – T’Challa, Shuri, M’Baku and Erik Killmonger.

Sadly the project is now dead with EA putting its energy towards “the most significant growth opportunities” – namely its live-service and microtransaction-heavy multiplayer titles including its sport games, “The Sims,” “Battlefield” and “Apex Legends”.
