Netflix has premiered the first footage from for the fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” along with revealing a release plan spread over three different holidays.
The final season will be split into three parts – Volume 1 releasing on November 26th, Volume 2 releasing at Christmas, and then the finale hitting on New Year’s Eve.
The production was shot throughout all of last year with several of the eight episodes tipped to be feature-length. The first ‘Volume’ is expected to be four episodes, the second three episodes and the finale one episode (likely the longest one).
The clip released recaps the past four seasons before offering about 45 seconds of footage from the new season with glimpses of the various characters and a massive threat as the Upside Down spills into our world.
Set in the fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown.
Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding.
As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before.
To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time.
The final run will star Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, and Sadie Sink as Maxine ‘Max’ Mayfield.
Also starring are Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley, Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair, Jamie Cambell Bower as Vecna, along with Cara Buono, Amybeth McNulty, and Linda Hamilton in an undisclosed role.
The fourth season had the streamer’s biggest-ever premiere weekend for an English-language series at the time, with the fifth tipped to be one of their biggest launches of the year.
