10 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

THE CASKET LOTTERY – “NIGHTSONG”

Kansas City post-hardcore vets The Casket Lottery have announced a new album, Feel The Teeth, due August 29 via Iodine. Lead single “Nightsong” finds them in fine form.

WAKELEE – “FIELD GOAL”

In a week, Brooklyn emo band Wakelee will be on tour with Arm’s Length and Charmer, and ahead of that they followed their recent Doghouse EP with a great new single, “Field Goal.”

EL MICHELS AFFAIR – “ANTICIPATE” (FT. CLAIRO)

El Michels Affair announced a new album, 24 Hr Sport, due out on September 5 via Big Crown. Leader Leon Michels collaborated with Clairo on her most recent album Charm, and she joins them on the first single, “Anticipate.”

ACTIVITY – “HEAVY BREATHING”

“The song started off as this very quiet somber lullaby type thing until a friend suggested we ‘go Duran Duran’ with it,” Activity’s Travis Johnson says of “Heavy Breathing. “Not sure we pulled that off whatsoever but what it turned into felt right. I don’t really want to get into what the song is actually about so I’ll just say it’s to do with wishing things had been better for someone than they were.” New album A Thousand Years In Another Way is out this Friday.

HÅVARD VOLDEN (LOST GIRLS) – “SMALL LIVES”

Håvard Volden, regular Jenny Hval collaborator (Lost Girls) will release solo album Small Lives on July 18 via Sauajazz. Made with his band of Guoste Tamulynaite (synthesizers), Adrian Myrh (bass) and Jan Martin Gismervik (drums), Volden explores the guitar and all its textures. Listen to the title track.

WORLDS WORST – “ANGUS”

“Angus” is the name of a 1995 movie with one of the decade’s best alt-rock/punk soundtracks, and it’s also the name of a new song by Worlds Worst that would’ve fit perfectly on that soundtrack. It’ll appear on the Salt Lake City band’s new album American Muscle, which arrives July 11 via Smoking Room (vinyl) and Julia’s War (cassette).

DMX – “BRING OUT THE WORST” (ft. JOYNER LUCAS)

A posthumous DMX album called DMX Features is set to arrive this summer, and it’ll include this song with Joyner Lucas.

AL JARDINE – “MY PLANE LEAVES TOMORROW (AU REVOIR)” (ft. NEIL YOUNG & FLEA)

When Neil Young came by the studio to contribute to former Beach Boy Al Jardine’s 2010 solo album A Postcard from California, they also recorded a song called “My Plane Leaves Tomorrow (Au Revoir)” that was shelved for 15 years until finally coming out on Al’s Islands In The Sun EP last week. Flea plays on it too.

SUPERCHUNK – “IS IT MAKING YOU FEEL SOMETHING”

It’s the first single from Superchunk’s new album Songs in the Key of Yikes (preorder our exclusive green vinyl variant).

NIHILISTIC EASYRIDER (JACOB OF NARROW HEAD) – “GETAWAY PLAN”

“In a funny way, these Nihilistic Easyrider songs are closer to the music I always wanted to make growing up — they’ve got that real ’90s and 2000’s emo feel that I grew up loving and wanting to channel,” Narrow Head’s Jacob Duarte says of his solo debut as Nihilistic Easyrider. “When I write for Narrow Head I’m writing for what the band needs, whereas these songs are more like, a personal diary of growing up through music.”
