DC Studios are down to four candidates for the lead role in Clayface as screen testing will take place this week. At least, that’s the Barside Buzz. However, this one passes my smell test, as you’ll see below.
Firstly, the claim came from MTTSH who says, George MacKay (1917, The Beast), Tom Blythe (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes), Jack O’Connell (Sinners, Starred Up) and Leo Woodall (One Day, The White Lotus) are all testing for the part, with “one of them expected to land it.”
This was then backed up by ApocHorseman who is always pretty solid for DC related news. It’s this quick backup that leads me to believe MTTSH‘s information is correct.
Before everyone starts asking… yea the Clayface short list is real. I had heard of Tom and George’s names but didn’t know the rest. Screen tests are happening this week so we might know who Clayface is this week or next

Really, the big drama about Clayface has amounted to, well nothing. Yes, the film has a new writer as the previous one stepped away. However, given the pace the film is still moving it must not have been page 1 rewrite. It appears DC are confident the script will be ready for production starting.

I still think it’s odd that a Clayface movie seems like it will be the third film in this new DCU. Ahead of Batman, Wonder Woman, etc. However, far as we know it’s all about the concept/pitch. DC Studios loved and were ready to script and shoot quickly. It’s clear there is going to be less mandated connectivity in the DCU compared to the MCU. Though, Gunn will find he’ll still have to ask for little connections to make it feel one Universe. Gunn himself experienced this, mostly in Guardians of the Galaxy. However, someone has to connect events, even if tentatively. Gunn is now boss man, not the young creative who doesn’t want the suits messing with his movie. .
What do you think as DC is down to four candidates for the lead role in Clayface ahead of screen testing this week? Any thoughts, does anyone actually care at this point? Thoughts below.
