Spencer Set For Blumhouse’s “Ma 2”

Octavia Spencer is set to return for a sequel to 2019s psychological horror feature “Ma” at Blumhouse Productions.

Spencer starred in the $61 million-grossing original as Sue Ann, a lonely woman who befriends a group of teens and allows them to use her basement for parties.

But things take a sinister turn as she implements a series of strict rules for the kids hanging out at her house, including never allowing them upstairs. Juliette Lewis and Luke Evans co-starred.

Tate Taylor directed the original from a script by Scotty Landes, but no director or writer for the sequel has been set as yet. Announcing the news as part of the Business of Fear event, Jason Blum says:

“Ma has proven to be a social phenomenon since its release in 2019, with fans eagerly embracing the film and Octavia’s iconic performance as Ma. Ma likes to say ‘don’t make me drink alone,’ so we’re thrilled Octavia will join us again for a second round.”

The film received mixed reviews from critics who liked the performances but weren’t so happy with the overall film, but the movie has generated a cult following online.
