Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood turns 95 this weekend, but he isn’t slowing down when it comes to movie making. Much like Tom Cruise, Ridley Scott or Martin Scorsese – Eastwood appears to have no intention of giving up filmmaking until he’s physically no longer capable of doing so.
The Oscar-winner tells Austrian newspaper Kurier (via Reuters that he plans to keep working, claiming to still be in good physical shape and hopeful that, “for a long time yet,” no-one will have to worry about him on that front.
The outlet adds that he’s currently in the pre-production phase for his next film. Eastwood is familiar with Austria, having filmed his role in the iconic WW2 mission action film “Where Eagles Dare” there in the late 1960s. He was also asked for his view on the current state of the film industry, saying:
“I long for the good old days when screenwriters wrote movies like ‘Casablanca’ in small bungalows on the studio lot. When everyone had a new idea.
We live in an era of remakes and franchises. I’ve shot sequels three times, but I haven’t been interested in that for a long while. My philosophy is: do something new or stay at home.
There’s no reason why a man can’t get better with age. And I have much more experience today. Sure, there are directors who lose their touch at a certain age, but I’m not one of them…. I’ll work as long as I can still learn something, or until I’m truly senile.
“
The comments follow on from his most recent feature, the legal drama “Juror No. 2,” which scored rave reviews and was a hit on the Max streaming service after Warners only gave the movie a very limited theatrical release.
