INDIA. Suntory Global Spirits has launched the travel retail-exclusive Bowmore Appellations collection in India.

The range is available through Delhi Duty Free at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi and Ospree Duty Free at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai.

Originally launched in October 2024, the line was the subject of a Moodie Davitt Spotlight Series eZine.  Earlier, it was launched via dynamic pop-ups at London Heathrow and Singapore Changi airports.

The series represents a fusion of Bowmore’s Islay roots with the influence of world-renowned terroirs including Burgundy, Bordeaux, the Douro Valley and Sauternes.

Bowmore is joined by Maker’s Mark, Jim Beam and The Ardmore among other Suntory spirits within the Mumbai arrivals shop-in-shop with Ospree Duty Free

The collection features four aged expressions, each matured in American oak ex-Bourbon casks and finished in wine or port casks from different European appellations:

  • Bowmore 14 Year Old: Finished in Bordeaux barriques, the whisky offers orchard fruit and smoke layered with berry sweetness.
  • Bowmore 16 Year Old: Enhanced by Ruby Port casks from the Douro Valley, the whisky has an autumnal character and offers mature smoke notes.
  • Bowmore 19 Year Old: Finished in Burgundy Pinot Noir casks, the whisky offers subtle smokiness and toasted flavours.
  • Bowmore 22 Year Old: Aged in Sauternes casks, the whisky offers sweet, fruity notes with a refined finish.

The Indian launch coincides with the recent opening of a dedicated 33sq m Suntory shop-in-shop within the Mumbai airport arrivals zone, developed in partnership with Ospree Duty Free. The space is designed to spotlight Bowmore’s craftsmanship, heritage and collectability to Indian travellers through an immersive brand experience.

The Bowmore Appellations series forms part of the brand’s wider premiumisation strategy. It reflects a deliberate approach to whisky-making that embraces the influence of time, cask and provenance in shaping the character of every expression.

The Appellations series fuses Bowmore’s Islay character with influence from the world’s most renowned terroirs to create a multi-dimensional drinking experience. It is showcased via an interactive product display in Mumbai.

First released in 1964, Black Bowmore is an expression that remains central to the brand’s visual and storytelling evolution. The refreshed design language of Bowmore, inspired by the layered complexity of its whiskies and the Black Bowmore expression, incorporates morphic linework and a dominant black palette.

Suntory Global Spirits Managing Director Global Travel Retail Ashish Gandham commented: “Travel retail is a key showroom for our global brands, and I am very proud that we are able to offer our retail partners such an exceptional new channel-exclusive collection.

“Bowmore Appellations is a very special series, a showcase for the multi-dimensional Bowmore spirit, and the different terroirs celebrated through these expressions.”

He added: “We know that our travelling consumers expect high-quality product innovation and authenticity, enhanced with deeper, richer experiences.

“This collection embodies our commitment to deliver a best-in-class premium brand portfolio, to truly elevate the airport shopping experience, and to help us achieve our ambition to become the world’s most-admired premium spirits company.” ✈
