The first bits of info regarding the first major update to Phasmophobia in “Chronicle” are out, with the update arriving June 24. Touted as the “biggest update yet” for Phasmophobia, Chronicle will overhaul the game’s evidence collection, expanding investigations with three new evidence types, adding a new Sound evidence alongside the three-tiered Sound Recorder and more.
Initially touched on with the 2025 roadmap, the new Sound evidence mechanic aims to add a new dimension to gameplay. Available in three upgrade tiers (T1, T2, and T3), the Sound Recorder unlocks deeper layers of audio detection, as players will be able to record audio from ghost events, Spirit Box responses, and Paranormal Sounds like those detected by the Parabolic Microphone.
Chronicle also overhauls the Journal, redefining how ghost hunters gather evidence. The journal will get a full redesign, where the Photos tab will be replaced by a brand-new Media tab. This tab will organize all captured proof into three sections—Photos, Videos, and new Sound Recordings—creating a more immersive investigation experience where players can log their evidence in a convenient all-in-one place.
As a result, investigators will now need to fill a full book of unique media to complete a perfect investigation, with new paranormal moments to capture—from EMF spikes to ghostly interactions and fleeting glimpses of otherworldly forms.
The update also revamps the Phasmophobia media quality system. The first evidence capture of any media type will be marked as “Unique”, granting extra cash and XP rewards at the end of each contract. Any subsequent captures of the same evidence type will be classed as “Duplicates”, offering smaller rewards. The new system will also add tier bonuses based on the equipment used, and adds all media captures into the Reward Multiplier, making every shot, sound, and sight count even more toward player’s final payouts.
On top of all of these additions and revamps, the Chronicle update will introduce a reworked levelling and progression system, and a brand-new Main Menu user interface. That’s all in combination with the bug fixes to polish the experience for players, as well as plenty of secrets that await discovery by players.
And after the Bleasdale Map rework, players can expect the same later this year with the rework to Grafton Farmhouse, which will include updated visuals, redesigned layouts, re-themed rooms, and a new attic. The Grafton Farmhouse revamp will arrive later this year after the Chronicle update.
Phasmophobia is available now on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and PS VR2, and the Xbox Series.
