What happens at the end of Netflix’s ‘The Survivors’?

The Survivors is thrilling audiences on Netflix now, but what happens at the end of the Australian drama? Read on to find out.

All six episodes of the show arrived on the streaming platform on June 6, with Charlie Vickers (The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power) playing Kieran Elliott, a resident of the fictional town of Evelyn Bay, Tasmania who returns home 15 years after a deadly storm hit the coastal town.

The storm caused the deaths of three of Kieran’s friends and family, and when he returns, now with his own family, the past traumas re-emerge when a young woman is murdered. The Evelyn Bay community finds itself desperately searching for answers and over the course of the show, they begin to uncover mysteries from the past.

The Survivors is created by Tony Ayres and also stars Yerin Ha, Robyn Malcolm, Thom Green, George Mason, Don Hany and Jessica De Gouw.

What happens at the end of Netflix’s The Survivors?

In the final episode, the truth about Gabby Birch’s disappearance 15 years ago is revealed. We learn that Gabby went into the sea caves not with Kieran, but with Sean Gilroy, who had a crush on her. He attempted to kiss her in the cave, but she rejected him. Embarrassed, he leaves, while Gabby got lost and drowned, leaving only a carving of her name on the inside of the cave.

Bronte Laidler, who was investigating Gabby’s case, found the carving and took a photograph, linking the evidence back to Sean. When Bronte confronted Sean, he panicked and struck her with her flashlight, killing her.

Kieran confronts Sean in the caves after piecing together the timeline, forcing Sean to admit to his responsibility. They begin to fight and Sean nearly drowns, but manages to fight back. As Sean moves in for the kill, the police arrive and arrest him.

We see Gabby’s remains being recovered from the caves, while Bronte’s laptop resurfaces, revealing the full truth. Kieran reconciles with his family and resolves to stay in Evelyn Bay with his partner Mia and their daughter.
