The DCU’s Clayface movie casts its lead star in Tom Rhys Harries as confirmed by studio boss James Gunn. We knew Clayface was casting for it’s lead star and many names were rumored. Sadly, for the scoopers, Rhys Harries wasn’t one of them.

Here’s what Gunn posted on Instagram following the Deadline article which broke the news.

“After a long and incredibly exhaustive search, we finally have our DCU Clayface in @tomrhysharries. Both Matt Reeves and I were just blown away by this guy, and can’t wait for you to see this film, directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan.”

We know Clayface is targeting itself as an R-rated body horror movie. Both Gunn and Peter Safran were blown away by the story idea from Mike Flanagan. Umberto Gonzalez from TheWrap claims he’s heard this is the Matt Hagan version of the character.

Meanwhile, Gunn talking Threads refused to say which Clayface this was. Or, if this was the same one that appeared in Creature Commandos and voiced by Alan Tudyk. Gunn was working his way around some fans bringing up his statement when the DCU was first announced. Namely that it would be the same actors who would play roles across animation, video games and live-action.

But…. Clayface was in Creature Commandos, played by Alan Tudyk, and promptly killed off as well. So….?

“I said we would plan on using PRIMARY actors whenever we can. I’ve also never said if the two characters are the same. (I’ve also never said they’re not).”

Actually not sure he did say, ‘whenever we can’. In fact I pointed out to my colleagues this would be interesting to see if it stuck at the time. However, perhaps, most likely this is just a different Clayface. I mean there was two in the comics also.

What do you think of this casting news? Thoughts below.
