Great Flying Blue business class award availability to/from Europe

We noted a few months ago that business class award availability between the US and Europe using the Flying Blue program was appalling, with fewer than 20 nonstop routes available at its 60,000 mile pricing for the next year.

That has changed – at least for the moment – as Thrifty Traveler has shared that there’s currently much more availability than has been the case recently.

For example, this is what the availability looks like from New York to Paris in peak summer season. 15 days of availability in that month alone is almost as much as was previously available across all those other routes over the course of an entire year.

Chicago to Amsterdam is looking pretty healthy too, with almost a third of August having availability.

That same 60,000 mile pricing is available from the west coast too, such as San Francisco to Paris in August, albeit only the first week of that month.

It’s not only when flying eastwards that you’ll find good availability. When heading back to the US from Europe you might find even better availability, such as Amsterdam to Washington D.C. in November.

Don’t forget about the taxes and fees charged by Flying Blue. From the US to Europe you’re looking at ~$250, while for the return leg you’re looking at ~$400, although the exact amount depends on the route and date.
