Today, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed a brand new interactive experience for the PS5 and PS VR2. The new, free app brings us back to the days when similar apps like Folding@home and Life with PlayStation were available on the PS3.

Climate Station out now for PS5 and PSVR2

In a collaborative effort between Sony and the United Nations Playing for the Planet Alliance, Climate Station is a free app that takes complex data about the Earth’s climate and turns it into an “immersive, interactive experience.”

“Developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment, as part of our collaboration with the United Nations Playing for the Planet Alliance, Climate Station turns complex data into an immersive, interactive experience,” reads a description from Sony. “Whether you’re a curious explorer, a data detective, or just looking for something totally unique to dive into, this free app available today on PS5 and PS VR2 is your gateway to understanding the forces shaping our world.”

Climate Station looks to be a pretty interesting tool for those wanting to learn more about the Earth’s Climate. There are four modes to interact with: Weather Year, Observations, Projections, and Explainer Library.

Weather Year showcases the Earth in motion, allowing viewers to watch certain conditions unfold throughout a year, like wildfires, tropical storms, and droughts, as well as giving human impact and cost data. Observations lets users view over a century’s worth of data about climate change from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC). Projections let users see potential outcomes based on global emissions decisions like rapid CO2 reductions or unchecked emissions growth. Lastly, Explainer Library features 90 minutes of more easily digestible content that explains climate change.

Climate Station is available today on the PS5 and PSVR2 for free. Anyone interested can simply download the educational app on the PS Store.
