Now Boarding: The RIMOWA x Vitra’s Sleek Take on Mobile Living
Vitra and RIMOWA team up for a limited-edition collection that proves mobility, function, and design can travel together beautifully.

Jet-setters and design lovers, it’s time to buckle in. Every year, Vitra drops a limited-edition collection that keeps us on our toes and wanting more (Virgil Abloh’s reimagined Prouvé Antony chair or Sabine Marcelis’s dreamy color updates to the iconic Panton Chair instantly come to mind). This year, Vitra is taking flight, teaming up with RIMOWA for a collaboration that’s as sleek as it is surprising. Blending the iconic luggage brand’s travel-savvy engineering with the furniture giant’s quintessential sense of form and function, the RIMOWA Vitra 2025 collection – featuring the Aluminum Stool and Aluminum Toolbox – reminds us that in today’s fast-paced world, mobility and multi-functionality are essential to modern living.
Aluminum is hardly uncharted territory for either brand. Vitra has been shaping it into historic pieces like the Eames Aluminum Chair, while RIMOWA’s grooved aluminum luggage has become synonymous with design-minded frequent flyers. This collaboration brings that shared material legacy into sharper focus, elevating aluminum from utilitarian to artful. In both the stool and toolbox, RIMOWA and Vitra demonstrate their knack for reimagining the everyday into something extraordinary.
“We share common values, such as a focus on good design, quality and durability. Even though we come from two different fields, the collaboration felt like a natural fit,” says Christian Grosen, Chief Design Officer, Vitra. “The Aluminium Stool and the Aluminum Toolbox reflect the heritage of both brands: travel for RIMOWA and mobile living and working for Vitro.”
The Aluminum Stool almost feels like a new typology altogether – part furniture, part luggage. It’s equally at home in a plane cabin, an office corner, or the trunk of your car. The mobile cube is crafted from RIMOWA’s signature grooved aluminum, equipped with the German Maison’s Multiwheel system, and finished with Vitra’s upholstered fabric lining the interior. The lid features a detachable seat cushion that can be placed on top when seating is scarce, like busy airports, packed events, or long commutes. Inside, a removable leather divider adds compartments to keep essentials organized. Available in three colorways (Silver & Ice Blue, Silver & Papyrus, and Silver & Emerald), the Aluminum Stool proves that utility and elegance can roll together just fine.
If the stool is a new typology, then the Aluminum Toolbox is a refined remix of a classic. Based on the original Vitra Toolbox designed by Arik Levy in 2010, this updated version – also available in the same colorways – swaps recycled plastic for RIMOWA’s anodized aluminum casing, instantly transforming the humble office organizer into a full-fledged design object. The interior is lined with recycled fabric, a soft and unexpected contrast to the high-shine metal exterior. It’s hard to imagine something this exquisite being used solely for pencils and cables – but, that’s kind of the point. It’s functional, yes, but it also makes a statement, whether parked on your desk, your bookshelf, or in your passenger seat.
As the cherry on top, a limited-edition RIMOWA Vitra Stick Set featuring six signature design elements from both brands will also be available at launch, perfect for adorning your new collectible pieces.
If you’re itching to add to cart, you’ll have to act fast – the Aluminum Stool is limited to 1,000 pieces, the Aluminum Toolbox to just 100, and the sticker set to only 600. Blink, and they’ll be boarding without you.
