With Friday The 13th: The Game sadly now a thing of the past, horror gamers will have to find another fix for summer camp slashing. Luckily, indie developer Mera Interactive is looking to fill that void with their upcoming asymmetric multiplayer Survival Horror game, Summer Camp. The devs are set to launch their Kickstarter campaign soon, and have just dropped a teaser trailer to get the buzz going.

Obviously taking inspiration from Friday the 13th, Summer Camp takes place at (what else?) an 80’s summer camp. One player takes on the role of the Slasher, whose goal is to kill off the remaining players (up to seven), who take on the roles of Counselors trying to escape from the campsite.

The Slasher is always on the hunt, and is able to use their supernatural abilities to track, trap and eliminate each Counselor. Meanwhile, as a Counselor, your goal is survival. You’ll need to explore the map to find and collect key items, solve puzzles and repair escape vehicles such as a car, boat, or even call for the police. You and the other Counselors can work together, or you can choose to double-cross and betray them to save yourself.

The game will make use of “realistic motion capture killing animations,” allowing Slashers to indulge their inner maniac with brutal environmental kills. There will also be cross-platform matchmaking, with optional filters to match only with players on your platform. The devs are also aiming to have dedicated servers “for stable and fair gameplay,” and no microtransactions. Of course, there will be Kickstarter backer exclusives, but the team is also planning “lifetime free content updates,” as well as DLCs.

In addition to the main game, Summer Camp will have a Sandbox Mode that allows a more “relaxed, open-ended” experience. This mode allows players to freely explore maps and interact, and even allows you to create your own scenarios and stories.

The Kickstarter mentions a free public Beta “coming soon,” but in the meantime, you can keep tabs on the game’s development from its Steam page. In addition to Steam, Mera Interactive hopes to bring Summer Camp to the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch.
