London-Heathrow Airport had another security incident on its hands that briefly caused Chaos at the busy airport this weekend, as suddenly a pedestrian appeared on the tarmac and started running across the taxiway.
The man was quickly chased across the field by airport workers, but managed to make a good amount of distance without being harmed before being cut off by a van and taken into custody.
Heathrow had a good number of high-profile security breaches where people made it onto the airport grounds and disrupted traffic.
Usually, these people are environmental protestors or people with some kind of an agenda but this guy suddenly appeared and ran around aimlessly without a clear purpose before or after his arrest.
It’s almost funny to watch if it weren’t so dangerous for both the guy and the airport workers coming after him.
Here is a YouTube video that was shot from a distance:
In the video, you can see a man zig-zagging around the taxiway and then running towards the gate area. Then a van appears that is speeding towards him, some men get out, and eventually subdue the guy before he’s taken into custody.
As the BBC reports, the identity of the man was later confirmed as a deportee who was due to be deported from the UK but who escaped the “professional” hands of the authorities tasked with keeping him close:
A man who was seen running across the Heathrow taxiway was a deportee, the Home Office has confirmed.
In footage recorded by Big Jet TV on Sunday, he was first spotted close to an Air Baltic plane.
A van then follows after him and he is caught by staff in hi-vis jackets. Moments later a police van arrives to take him away.
The Home Office would not say anymore on the individual’s status or the flight details.
Heathrow contractor Mitie who helped to resolve the incident said: “An investigation into the incident is under way.
“The individual was quickly apprehended, reboarded the flight, and was handed over to the relevant authorities on landing.” …
It’s really mind-boggling how this can happen time and time again at London-Heathrow. Either people get into the perimeter from the outside, or there is a security breach from the inside.
This time, officers tasked to deport an individual let him escape, and not only was he roaming the airport, but he also got onto the tarmac and ran around aimlessly.
In the background, you can see planes landing and taking off not too far from where this man was moving around, obviously a significant danger to both the individual and the aircraft moving around.
Conclusion
A deportee in the (supposed) custody of the Home Office escaped while being placed on a deportation flight this weekend. He then got onto the tarmac at Heathrow Airport and ran around the active taxiways, triggering a wild goose chase with people running after him and then a van chasing him around.
While the man was eventually caught, taken into custody, and successfully deported, it highlights once again that Britain’s airports lack safety where it really matters.
The government terrorizes the flying public with stringent security measures designed to keep people safe, but then totally fails in maintaining a safe perimeter of the airport, where time and time again, bad actors manage to breach into sensitive areas of flight operations.
