The first photos have been released by Empire for “Moon,” “Source Code” and “Warcraft” director Duncan Jones’ new feature “Rogue Trooper”.
The project is his long-gestating animated adaptation of the sci-fi comic from “Judge Dredd” publisher 2000AD. This one sees Jones using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 gaming engine to create its animation.
The story unfolds on Nu Earth, a toxic wasteland where a war is underway between the fascist Norts and the democratic Southers. Aneurin Barnard stars as a genetic infantryman engineered for battle in the planet’s poisonous atmosphere.
When his unit is sold out and left for dead, he is the lone survivor and sets out on a mission for vengeance. On his journey, he is accompanied by a sentient gun, rucksack, and helmet imbued with the personalities of his now-dead former squadmates.
The film boasts an impressive cast that includes Hayley Atwell, Jack Lowden, Reece Shearsmith, Sean Bean, Asa Butterfield, Daryl McCormack, Diane Morgan and Alice Lowe. There’s also Matt Berry and Jemaine Clement as a pair of villains called Mr Bland and Mr Brass.
No word on a potential release date or platform as yet for the Rebellion and Liberty Films release.
