Following a cinematic trailer last year, CD Projekt Red used the State of Unreal showcase this morning to show off footage of “The Witcher 4” game which was created in Unreal Engine 5.
The 9.5 minute clip was shown running on a base PS5 at 60fps with raytracing and is described as a “technological showcase set in the world of Witcher 4”. Though not confirmed as actual gameplay, it shows what the game will be capable of on a standard PS5.
Various major developers have had difficulty getting Unreal Engine 5 to deliver 60 frames-per-second with raytracing and good resolution, but here they appear to have done it.
As the gameplay confirms, the new title will put the focus on Ciri as the lead character rather than Geralt of Rivia. Newcomer Ciara Berkeley (“The Deceived”) is taking over the voice of Ciri from game voice veteran Jo Wyatt.
In the clip, Ciri is exploring a town in the land of Kovir. The aim is said to be to “push open-world game technology forward”.
Denise Gough, who stars as Dedra Meero in “Andor,” voiced Yennefer of Vengerberg in “The Witcher 3” game and seemingly indicated during her press rounds for the show she doesn’t know what’s going on with the fourth “The Witcher” game.
A new cinematic trailer was also released and has also been included below.
