Nearly two years after it was announced, Electronic Arts has cancelled its proposed game based on Marvel’s “Black Panther” reports IGN.
In addition, they are shutting down developer Cliffhanger Games, and are attempting to place affected staff – including veterans from games like “Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor,” “Halo Infinite,” “God of War” and “Call of Duty” – in other roles across the company.
The third-person, single-player game would’ve been the first major game centered on the character and was being developed in collaboration with Marvel Games.
Players would have taken on the role of Wakanda’s superhero protector throughout but further specifics about the nature of the game, its setting and more are still under wraps.
EA Entertainment president Laura Miele says in an email that the game’s axing is part of efforts to “sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.”
The same email reportedly indicated that EA Sports aside, EA Entertainment will mainly focus on new “Battlefield,” “The Sims,” “Skate” and “Apex Legends” titles going forward. They would however continue with Motive‘s “Iron Man” game and Respawn’s third “Star Wars: Jedi” game.
