Molly Tuttle announces new album ‘So Long Little Miss Sunshine’ & tour, shares song & video

Following two bluegrass albums with her band Golden Highway, Molly Tuttle has announced a new solo album, So Long Little Miss Sunshine, due August 15 via Nonesuch (pre-order). She made it with producer Jay Joyce (Lainey Wilson, Eric Church, etc), and lead single “That’s Gonna Leave A Mark” goes in more of a ’90s country pop-rock direction–a noticeable difference from her recent bluegrass material. It was co-written with Better Than Ezra’s Kevin Griffin.

“I’ve been wanting to make this record for such a long time,” Molly says. “Part of me was scared to do such a big departure, and that went into the album title. [Eventually I decided,] ‘You know what? I’m just not going to care what people think. I’m going to do what I want.”

“I wrote ‘That’s Gonna Leave a Mark’ with my friend Kevin Griffin,” she continues. “He has such a brilliant pop sensibility. We reworked it a little bit last year. It’s fun, sort of sassy, and that guitar part is one of my favorites that I play on the record.” Check out the song and its video below.

Jay Joyce also plays several instruments on the album; which also features drummer/percussionists Jay Bellerose and Fred Eltringham; bassist Byron House; and co-writing, harmony vocals, banjo, fiddle, and harmonica from Molly’s partner Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show. In addition to the 11 original songs, it includes a cover of Icona Pop and Charli XCX’s “I Love It.” The album artwork features Molly, who has been bald since she was three years old due to the autoimmune condition alopecia areata, in eight different wigs plus one photo of her with nothing on her head at all. You can see that and check out the tracklist below as well.

Molly has some previously-announced tour dates coming up this summer, including a sold-out show at NYC’s Mercury Lounge on June 24, and she just announced an extensive September-December tour that includes a much bigger NYC show on September 18 at Brooklyn Steel. Tickets for most of the new dates go on sale Friday (6/6) with presales beforehand. All dates are listed below.
