It was announced a few years back that actor Keanu Reeves, writer Akiva Goldsman and director Francis Lawrence were reteaming for a sequel to 2005’s DC adaptation “Constantine” at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Talk of the sequel had swirled around for years before that, and after it was revealed, strike-related delays and the busy schedules of those involved seemed to have halted things.
Earlier this year, Lawrence gave a positive update saying things are “closer than ever” for a sequel to go forward and that everyone, including Keanu, is “super, super excited about it”.
Now though, something has changed. In an interview with The Direct, actor Peter Stormare has revealed that the script isn’t in shape enough for Keanu to approve at this point:
It’s a lot of back and forth, because… I think Keanu [Reeves], which I know pretty good, is not so happy with the scripts […] But to do a sequel, the studios want to have, you know, cars flying in the air. They want to have people doing flip-flops and fighting action scenes […] I think from Keanu, he wants to do a sequel that is very close to the first one.”
The original film grossed nearly $300 million and starred Reeves as the chain-smoking supernatural exorcist and demonologist John Constantine from the “Hellblazer” comics.
