Watch Metallica jam Fugazi’s “Waiting Room” at DC-area show

For the past few years, Metallica have often taken a moment during their shows for a “doodle” from guitarist Kirk Hammett and bassist Robert Trujillo, during which the two do a little instrumental jam, which is sometimes a cover and sometimes related to where they’re playing. (For example, they recently did Rush in Toronto.) That was very much the case at last night’s (5/28) DC-area show at Landover, Maryland’s Northwest Stadium, where the two Metallica members broke out into a jam of Fugazi‘s 1988 post-hardcore classic “Waiting Room.” According to what a “reliable source” told Consequence, Ian MacKaye himself was in the audience, “with a smile on his face.” Watch video of the moment and check out Metallica’s full setlist from the show below.

Metallica’s tour continues in Charlotte, NC on Saturday (5/31), with shows in Atlanta, Tampa, Houston, Santa Clara, and Denver after that. In 2026, they’ll tour Europe with Knocked Loose, Gojira, and others.
