“The Penguin” showrunner Lauren LeFranc says they are only “in early stages” when it comes to other spinoff series related to Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” film.

As for a possible second season of “The Penguin,” he says: “Beyond Colin (Farrell), it depends on whether there’s a story that we can make richer than what we’ve already done… I’m in the process of exploring what that would be, if there will be more.” [Source: Deadline]

Carthage Must Be Destroyed
Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Chad A. Verdi, Christopher Donelly and Gareth West are set to produce the action thriller “Carthage Must Be Destroyed”. “Ocean’s Eleven” scribe Ted Griffin will direct the project which will shoot in Rhode Island this October.

In the story, a stranger happens upon a rust-belt city in decline, ruled by its criminal underworld. Using brain and brawn, he sows distrust and creates chaos, in order to dismantle the corrupt power structure. Verdi Productions and Ketchup Entertainment are backing the project. [Source: Deadline]

Westies
J.K. Simmons is set for a lead role in the MGM+ drama series “The Westies”. Chris Brancato and Michael Panes created the true story-inspired series about the early 1980s gang of the same name in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen. Simmons will play the gang’s ruthless leader Eamon Sweeney.

Internal conflict between the brash younger generation and the old-school leadership threatens to destabilise the group as FBI deepens its investigation into the gang’s rivals – the Italian mafia. Filming will begin in July in Toronto. [Source: Variety]
